The National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, announced on Wednesday that it has initiated an investigation into the abduction of a five-month-old baby on a farm in Agbeye town.
According to the security agency, the child had been placed under a tree while the mother was collecting firewood nearby. However, when the mother returned to the spot to breastfeed the baby, she found the child missing.
Expressing concerns over the increasing number of missing children in the state, the command revealed that between August 2 and 27, three cases of missing underage persons were reported to the command.
Dr. Michael Adaralewa, the Osun NSCDC Commandant, in a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Kehinde Adeleke, disclosed that the parents involved in the Agbeye incident are both deaf and dumb.
The statement also mentioned that on August 2, a report was made at the Osun NSCDC Command Headquarters regarding the kidnapping of a male child, aged one year and three months, in the Osunjela community.
The statement further read, “A discreet investigation revealed that a woman named Tawa, introduced to the baby’s mother by a family friend, Sodiq, under the pretext of learning bag making, was involved in the abduction. On her first day at work, Tawa pretended to be playing with the child and then kidnapped him.”
