Men of the Lagos State Taskforce have arrested at least 25 suspected criminals, including traffic robbers who have been terrorizing motorists and residents along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The comprehensive operation, aimed at ridding the Lekki-Epe Expressway and its environs of criminal activities, was conducted across key locations such as Chisco Roundabout, Elegushi, Ikate Roundabout, and Marwa Bus Stop.
The crackdown followed numerous complaints from concerned motorists and residents who reported a spike in criminal activities, particularly during rush hour, where hoodlums would ambush unsuspecting passersby and motorists.
Speaking on the operation, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adetayo Akerele, under special directives from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, emphasized the agency’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Lagos.
“During the sting operation, we arrested at least 25 suspected criminals who will be prosecuted accordingly. We cannot allow these criminal elements to hold our people hostage in their own communities.
The State Government remains steadfast in its resolve to protect lives and property. This operation is a testament to our unwavering dedication to this cause,” Akerele stated.
Residents applauded the renewed efforts of the State Taskforce, noting that it aligns with the THEMES’ PLUS Agenda of the State, which aims to restore law and order along the Lekki-Epe Expressway and across the metropolis.
Akerele further disclosed that initial surveillance in the area revealed that these miscreants used pedestrian bridges at Ikate and Marwa Bus Stop to spot broken-down vehicles and prey on the occupants. He assured the public that the criminal activities in the area have been completely curtailed.
He urged motorists and residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the agency or the nearest police station.
“We remain on high alert and will continue to carry out surveillance and sting operations aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of motorists and residents along this axis and beyond,” Akerele added.
