Ekiti State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) has awarded contracts for the construction of two major rural roads: Ikole – Isaba – Ikoyi – Igbemo and Ijero – Epe – Araromi – Iropora roads, covering a total of 31.12km.
The contracts, expected to be completed within 18 months and valued at N10,092,015,414.66, were awarded to two construction firms namely, Messrs Wals and Funs Nigeria Limited and Messrs Delko Holdings Nigeria Limited.
At the signing held in Ado-Ekiti, the RAAMP State Project Coordinator, Hon. Sunday Adunmo, highlighted Ekiti State Government’s dedication to enhancing rural connectivity, agricultural access, and local economies by engaging local contractors, with seven of the nine active road projects being managed by Ekiti-based firms.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade, underscored the strategic importance of these new roads for Ekiti’s food security initiatives.
Citing research that shows farmers experience post-harvest losses of up to 45%, Mr Boluwade emphasised that accessible road networks are critical for transporting farm produce to markets, which is central to the state’s food security agenda for 2025.
He urged the contractors to construct durable roads that would serve the agricultural sector adequately.
