Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has extended the sale of subsidized rice to pensioners in the state.
This initiative was announced by the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, during his visit to monitor the distribution of discounted rice to members of the Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria (LOGPAN) at their secretariat in Ita Oshin, Abeokuta, on Monday.
Onasanya explained that the economic challenges in the country affect all age groups, prompting the government to offer rice at subsidized rates to local government pensioners. He encouraged the pensioners to take advantage of this opportunity, highlighting that the Dapo Abiodun-led administration is committed to their welfare.
“Bringing the rice directly to the pensioners’ doorsteps aims to alleviate any difficulties they might face in obtaining the commodity,” Onasanya said, urging them to purchase according to their financial capacities.
State Chairman of LOGPAN, Pastor Benedict Ademoye, praised Governor Abiodun’s unprecedented gesture, noting that it would significantly ease the pensioners’ burden amidst the high cost of food items.
Mrs. Bernice Lawal, Chairman of Retired Primary School Teachers in the state, expressed her heartfelt appreciation, stating that this was the first time such a benefit had been extended to her members since her retirement in 2009.
The retirees at the sales point pledged their loyalty and support to the government, offering prayers for the administration’s continued success.
