Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has moved ahead of Tyson Fury in the latest WBC heavyweight rankings, National Updates reports.
Fury lost his WBC heavyweight title to Oleksandr Usyk in their undisputed clash in May in Saudi Arabia.
Previously ranked as champion, Fury has now fallen to second place in the challenger rankings, below long-term British-Nigerian rival Joshua. Joshua, who has lost twice to Usyk, is now the top-ranked contender behind the champion.
Joshua’s rise in the rankings follows impressive wins over Francis Ngannou and Otto Wallin.
He is expected to compete for the vacant IBF title against Daniel Dubois in September.
Agit Kabayel is ranked third after his underdog victory over Frank Sanchez on the Fury vs Usyk undercard in May.
Zhilei Zhang is fourth following his knockout win over Deontay Wilder, and Nigerian heavyweight Efe Ajagba rounds out the top five, holding the WBC ‘silver’ belt.
Jared Anderson is sixth, with Martin Bakole and Sanchez ranked seventh and eighth respectively.
Joe Joyce holds ninth place, while rising star Bakhodir Jalolov completes the top ten.
This marks a setback for Fury, who had held the WBC belt since defeating Wilder in 2020, with notable defenses against Derek Chisora, Dillian Whyte, and Ngannou.
However, Fury will have a chance to reclaim his title and avenge his loss when he faces Usyk in a rematch on December 21. Fury has returned to the gym and is determined to rewrite his name in the history books.
