
A suspected cult clash along Ondo Road in Ile-Ife, Osun State, resulted in the death of an unidentified male adult on Saturday. Sources indicate the altercation involved members of the Eiye and Alora confraternities.
Eyewitnesses, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident, revealed that the clash stemmed from a previous conflict between the two cult groups.
The victim was reportedly attacked while purchasing an item by armed men on a motorcycle, who shot him in the head, leading to his immediate death. The gunshots caused panic in the area, prompting many residents to flee to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
“One person was killed along Ondo Road on Saturday by armed men suspected to be cultists. Reports suggest the victim was also a cult member,” the source said.
“He was buying something along the road when he was shot in the head and died on the spot.”
Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident during a telephone conversation on Tuesday. She stated that an investigation is underway and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the suspects.
“There was a suspected cult clash along Ondo Road. The victim was attacked by men on a motorcycle while buying something.
They shot him in the head, resulting in his death. His body has been recovered and taken to a morgue, and we have commenced an investigation to arrest the perpetrators,” Opalola said.
