The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted claims circulating in some online publications on Wednesday that Super Eagles’ forward Victor Osimhen has been banned from the team due to a recent social media outburst.

The NFF labeled these reports as complete falsehood. Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the General Secretary of the NFF, expressed his surprise at the misleading information, clarifying that no such process has been initiated or concluded to ban Osimhen from the national team.

“The NFF implores the media to work together with us to resolve issues positively and focus on the bigger picture, rather than unnecessarily escalating certain matters,” Dr. Sanusi stated.

“There was no official communication from the NFF about banning Osimhen from the national team. Yet, some individuals have spread these baseless rumors. This is unacceptable.

“Our current focus is on resolving all matters concerning the Super Eagles and preparing confidently for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the remaining six matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series. This is not the time to spread falsehoods and further disrupt the public space.”
