Private schools across Oyo State will shut down on Friday, June 5, 2026, following recent kidnapping incidents in the Yawota and Esiele communities of Ogbomosho.
The decision was announced by the Coalition of Private Schools in Oyo State after assessing the security situation and its implications for the safety of pupils, students, teachers, and other members of the school community.
According to a statement jointly signed by the Acting Chairman of the Coalition, Engr. Jamiu Mohammed, and the Acting Secretary, Mr. Mayowa Solademi, all private schools in the state are expected to close for the day and organize special prayer sessions aimed at seeking divine intervention, protection, peace, and improved security across Oyo State and Nigeria.
The coalition urged parents, guardians, school proprietors, teachers, and students to actively participate in the prayer programme as directed by their respective schools.
It also condemned the rising wave of criminal activities in parts of the state and called on security agencies to intensify efforts toward protecting lives and property.
“We strongly condemn all forms of criminal activities and call on the relevant security agencies to intensify efforts toward safeguarding lives and property within our communities,” the statement read.
The coalition expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation, stressing the need for collective action in the pursuit of lasting peace and security across Oyo State.
