Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the national leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has died at the age of 100.
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, announced the death of the elder statesman in a statement personally issued on Tuesday.
Aiyedatiwa described Fasoranti as a respected leader and a symbol of wisdom, integrity and selfless service whose contributions to Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria would remain indelible.
The governor said the late Afenifere leader dedicated his century-long life to the development of his state and the Yoruba nation, adding that his counsel, fatherly guidance and principled positions on justice and good governance would be greatly missed.
“With a heavy heart but with total submission to the will of God, I announce the passing of our revered elder statesman, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who departed this world at the glorious age of 100,” the governor stated.
He further noted that Fasoranti had left behind an enduring legacy of honour and service that would inspire generations to come.
The governor, on behalf of the Ondo State Government and its people, extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and the entire state over the loss.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
Fasoranti’s death marks the loss of a prominent Yoruba elder statesman whose leadership in Afenifere placed him at the centre of socio-political discussions concerning the Yoruba nation and Nigeria.
