Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called on Muslim faithful to embrace the teachings of Hijrah 1446, the Islamic New Year, and reflect on the values exemplified by Prophet Muhammad.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Suleiman Olanrewaju, in Ibadan, the state capital, Governor Makinde extended congratulations to Muslims across Nigeria, particularly in Oyo State, on the commencement of Hijrah 1446, marking the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah.
He expressed his wishes for the new year to be filled with divine mercy and blessings from Almighty Allah.
Governor Makinde urged all citizens, regardless of their religious affiliation, to internalize the lessons of hard work, determination, perseverance, love, harmony, positivity, and the propagation of goodness, which the migration of Prophet Muhammad symbolizes.
“These values and virtues, if embraced by each one of us, irrespective of our status in society, have the potential to transform us and our communities,” Governor Makinde stated.
He encouraged everyone to take advantage of this period to reflect deeply on these principles and apply them in their daily lives, emphasizing that such introspection would bring individual and collective benefits.
The governor also called upon everyone to use the occasion of Hijrah to pray fervently for the peace, unity, and progress of Nigeria.
In concluding his statement, he once again extended heartfelt congratulations to Muslim brothers and sisters, wishing them a prosperous Hijrah 1446.
Governor Makinde’s remarks underscore a commitment to promoting unity, reflection, and the application of moral values across the diverse population of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
