Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the implementation of several resolutions from the National Council on Establishments (NCE) within the state’s civil service.

The State’s Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, made this announcement during a courtesy visit from the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ogun State Council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Hameed Ademola-Benco.

Mr. Onasanya stated that the governor, known for being worker-friendly, has approved several measures to boost worker morale.

These include the lateral conversion of Information Officers to the cadre of Information/Public Relations Officers and the adjustment of entry points for Graduate Nurses and Engineers to GL 10.

He emphasized that worker welfare is a priority and highlighted several actions taken by the state government which include payment of workers’ deductions from July 2022 to date, with plans to clear outstanding ones from March 2021 to June 2022.

Also, settlement of leave allowances from January 2023 to date, with arrears being addressed and timely payment of July salaries.

Onasanya also praised the administration for its proactive measures, such as introducing palliative measures to mitigate the impact of increased petroleum prices, prioritizing capacity building, and ensuring healthcare for workers through the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme, with the government covering 50% of the cost.

Regarding consequential adjustments raised by the labor leader, Onasanya assured that reports from two committees on the issue would be reviewed.

He reaffirmed his office’s commitment to maintaining a positive relationship with labor unions to enhance worker welfare.

Comrade Ademola-Benco, during the visit, expressed appreciation for the Head of Service’s willingness to engage directly on workforce welfare issues.

He thanked the state government for its support and outlined several demands, including adjustments on monthly pensions, the contributory pension scheme, and the release of all deductions and leave allowances.

Mrs. Bidemi Alafiatayo, the 2nd Vice Chairman of NLC, also expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun’s administration for its worker-friendly policies and welfare packages.
