President Bola Tinubu has described Coastal Highway project as a symbol of hope, unity, and prosperity for the country amid the controversies and called for public understanding, especially from those whose properties and livelihoods will be affected.
We gather to mark a significant milestone in our journey towards progress and development. The flag-off of this 700 km superhighway, a 10-lane road project, represents a crucial step in enhancing connectivity, facilitating economic growth, and improving the quality of life for our people.
The President made this know today at the official flagging off ceremony of 700 km Lagos-Calabar coastal road, which took place at Victoria Area of Lagos State today.
According to him, “this project is more than just a road. It will connect our communities in nine states, Lagos to Cross River, traversing Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states to foster trade and commerce, boost tourism, and create new opportunities for generations to come.”
“Let us work together to ensure that this project benefits everyone and leaves a lasting legacy for our children and grandchildren. This is not only a legacy project of this administration but a dream come true that will connect some neglected towns and cities along the coastal route.”
Tinubu expressed confidence in the economic potential of the Lagos-Calabar highway. He praised the engineers, workers, and stakeholders for their dedication, urging them to prioritize safety, sustainability, and social responsibility.
He noted the strategic importance of the highway in linking key ports and facilitating trade routes, which will enhance business opportunities and investments along the project corridor.
Despite the criticism and the necessity to demolish some buildings, . He emphasized that sacrifices are necessary for the nation’s growth, assuring that the government will provide compensation and support to those impacted.
The flag off was attended by top government dignitaries including the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Works Dave Umahi, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and the Kwara State governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq among others.
