The Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has urged collaboration with strategic partners to support the implementation and adoption of E-parliament systems in state assemblies across the country.
Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin made this call while delivering a keynote address in Abuja during a reflection session organized by the Conference in partnership with the Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) and the Engaged Citizens Pillar (ECP).
In his address, the Chairman emphasized the importance of a unified digital platform to streamline legislative activities, improve data management, and enhance communication among legislators, committees, and stakeholders.
He highlighted that the adoption of E-parliament would enhance transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement, while also making legislative processes more efficient.
“I would like to leverage the expertise and resources of PERL and other partners to ensure our State Assemblies embrace E-parliament, making legislative processes more open and accessible to citizens, reducing the time and resources wasted on manual operations, and providing access to data, research, and analysis to inform legislative decisions,” Ogundoyin stated.
He noted that this initiative is part of the Conference of Speakers’ ongoing efforts to champion legislative reforms, promote good governance, and strengthen democratic institutions in Nigeria.
Ogundoyin called on strategic partners to join forces with the Conference to drive the successful implementation of E-parliament, sharing expertise and resources to transform the legislative landscape in the country.
Expressing optimism about the potential of E-parliament, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin acknowledged and commended PERL, ECP, and other strategic partners for their advocacy and implementation of various legislative reforms that have significantly enhanced the capacity and effectiveness of State Legislatures.
“I commend our strategic partners for their remarkable programs and activities that have continued to improve our legislative processes and ultimately promote good governance in our nation,” he added.
Reflecting on the progress made so far, Ogundoyin highlighted the Conference’s successful advocacy for key reforms, including the Funds Management Bill/Law, State Legislative Service Commission, State Legislative Finance Guidelines, and the push for legislative financial and administrative autonomy.
He also noted the importance of capacity development programs and robust engagements with state legislatures on constitutional review exercises.
