Divine Ikubor, widely known as Rema, made a generous donation of N105 million to a Christ Embassy church in Benin, Edo State, during a Sunday service.
The Afrobeats star expressed his gratitude to the church for its unwavering support and guidance throughout his career.
In a now-viral video, Rema stated, “I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory. I feel like it is important to give back because the church has embraced, prayed for me, and has kept me very consistent with my spirit.”
Rema announced his donations as follows: N40 million towards the church’s infrastructure, N20 million to support the distribution of the “Rhapsody of Realities” devotional, N25 million for the teens church infrastructure, and N20 million to assist widows within the church.
The singer also shared a heartfelt story about how the church supported his family during a difficult period following his father’s death.
He recalled, “When I was eight years old, after losing my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned. All that we had was taken from us, and we felt very alone. I remember Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, opened a shop for my mum, and that was what she managed to take care of us.”
Rema returned to his hometown in Benin on Tuesday ahead of his highly anticipated homecoming concert. Music producer Collins Michael, aka Don Jazzy, and the Mavin crew also arrived in Benin to show their support for the event.
Rema was also honored by the Oba of Benin, who presented him with a royal plaque ahead of the concert.
