The development of Ilorin Smart City, recently initiated by the Kwara State Government, is projected to cost approximately N1.72 trillion, according to the state Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Olusegun Ogunsola.
Speaking at a two-day workshop organized by the Kwara State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) in Ilorin on Friday, Ogunsola highlighted the transformative impact the project will have on the state capital through massive infrastructure upgrades and environmental remodeling.
The workshop, themed “Embracing Innovation: Leveraging Industry 4.0 Technologies for Enhanced Quantity Surveying Practices,” focused on sustainable housing, urban renewal, and smart urban development.
Ogunsola stated that the Ilorin Smart City project will cover 11,000 hectares of land, with the Kwara State government contributing N60 billion.
He added that 58.5% of the available land will generate revenue of N450 million per hectare.
“Ilorin Smart City will be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), featuring extensive infrastructure and energy solutions,” he said.
“In the next 50 years, professionals in the state will be fully engaged.”
Dr. Ranti Adebiyi, the state chairman of NIQS, said the workshop aimed to equip surveyors with modern technological skills to keep pace with ongoing developments in the country.
“This workshop will help our members stay updated on 4.0 technologies for enhanced quantity surveying practices,” Adebiyi added.
The event featured experts from across the country, who shared insights on modern technological practices to improve the state’s survey industry.
