The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as Yusuf Adenoyin for possessing eight human skulls in Isua, the headquarters of Akoko South-East Local Government Area.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the arrest occurred on Wednesday when police personnel from the Police Safer Highway Patrol at the Isua/Epinmi checkpoint detained the suspect.
Odunlami explained, “On June 10, 2024, at about 0800hrs, personnel attached to the Police Safer Highway Patrol at Isua/Epinmi checkpoint, while performing their lawful duty, flagged down a Nissan Saloon car en route to Akure.
During the vehicle search, one of the passengers attempted to flee, prompting the police to pursue and arrest him.”
The suspect, Yusuf Adenoyin, 31, was found with eight dried human skulls, fresh human flesh, and charms concealed in a polythene bag wrapped in a garri sack.
Adenoyin confessed that he was transporting the items to herbalists and admitted to having previously supplied seven human skulls before his arrest.
The police spokesperson stated that an investigation is ongoing to apprehend other accomplices involved in the case.
In a related development, the Ondo State Police Command also arrested three individuals connected to robbery activities in Akure, the state capital. The suspects, identified as Uche Onu, Ekene Okorie, and Celestine Eze, were apprehended through intelligence efforts and have confessed to their crimes.
Odunlami elaborated on the robbery case, saying, “The suspects participated in a robbery involving a Scania truck with registration number JJJ 701 YE, valued at N12,000, and 61 empty gas cylinders of 50kg each.
During the robbery, a police constable was injured at the scene of the crime.”
The investigation revealed that Ekene Okorie, who drove the stolen truck, led detectives to Emmanuel Okike, who purchased the stolen gas cylinders for N36,000 each, totaling N2,256,000. The money was paid into the accounts of Tochukwu Obi and Desmond Orjiakor.
The stolen Scania truck was recovered in Benin City, Edo State, and all 61 gas cylinders were retrieved from the receiver, Emmanuel Okike, in Lagos State.
Francis Okafor is currently in detention at the SCID, Benin City, in connection with another armed robbery case, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend Ezeego, who remains at large.
Odunlami concluded by stating that the three robbery suspects would be charged in court upon the completion of the investigation.
