The Oyo State Government has renovated 105 schools, with work ongoing in 36 others, as part of efforts to create safer learning environments across the state.
This was disclosed by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs. Florence Oloyede, represented by Deputy Director Mr. Abraham Adeniran, while addressing teachers at a three-day training on School Safety and Climate Change Education.
The training, organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in collaboration with UNICEF, was held at Queens School, Apata, Ibadan.
Mrs. Oloyede explained that the training is also being conducted simultaneously in three other centers; Saki, Iseyin, and Ogbomoso, benefiting a total of 250 teachers.
She further noted that the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde recently deployed security guards to public schools to protect students and school property.
Topics covered during the training include school safety, managing violence in schools, identifying early warning signs of security threats, gender-based violence, and climate change education.
Facilitators at the four training centers include Mrs. Olubunmi Adejobi, Mr. Akeem Popoola, Mr. Stephen Olayiwola (UNICEF Desk Officer), Mrs. Alice Ojo, Mr. Sharafadeen Adeyemo, Mrs. Simbiat Alolade (SUBEB), Mrs. Ahmadu Fatimo, Mr. Babatola, Mr. David Oladapo, and Mr. Nurudeen Olunlade.
