The Olubadan-in-Council has officially nominated former Oyo State governor, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The nomination was made on Monday during a meeting of the Council held at the New Palace, Oke-Aremo, Ibadan. Although Oba Ladoja was absent, all other beaded crown High Chiefs were present.
The motion for his nomination was moved by the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, and seconded by the Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole.
Oba Ajibola confirmed that the Council would forward Ladoja’s name to the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for formal approval.
Ladoja’s nomination follows the death of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 90 less than a year after receiving the staff of office on July 12, 2024.
In line with the traditional Ibadan chieftaincy succession system, Oba Ladoja, the most senior chief in the Otun Line, is next in line to ascend the throne, following Oba Olakulehin, who came from the Balogun Line.
