Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged the staff of the State University (UNIOSUN) to avoid any involvement in crises that could hinder the institution’s progress.

Speaking at the University’s 14th Convocation Ceremony held at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium in Osogbo, the governor expressed his administration’s full support for the decisions made by the council and management regarding staff welfare.

Governor Adeleke praised the university’s adoption of the “no-strike, no-Aluta” policy, describing it as a key factor in the school’s rapid development. He clarified that the policy is not a form of oppression, but a reflection of quality leadership.

In his words, “I have noted that UNIOSUN has established a “no-strike” “no aluta” tradition, and it is these that keep the University up when other schools are down.

This culture of no strike and no aluta does not in any way presuppose oppression or dictatorship. Rather, it is an indication of good leadership at all levels of the University governance.”

Governor Adeleke also reaffirmed the State Government’s confidence in the Governing Council and management, stating that the government fully supports the council’s decisions on staff welfare.

He warned the university’s staff not to exploit the situation or stir unrest over welfare issues that have already been addressed by the council, which operates within the law.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Clement Adebooye, emphasized the importance of investing in education, particularly during challenging times.

He remarked, “At a time like this when there is an increase in societal, national and global challenges, the wisest decision any Government and nation can take is to invest more in quality education.”

Professor Adebooye also highlighted the resilience of UNIOSUN despite financial challenges, stating that the university remains focused on maintaining global standards of excellence and relevance.
