The Oyo State Government has fixed April 3, 2026, for the coronation of newly elevated Ibadan High Chiefs, in a move aimed at preventing controversy and preserving the integrity of the traditional institution.

The ceremony, which will take place at Mapo Hall, was confirmed in a letter from the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, addressed to the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

According to the correspondence, the decision to proceed with the coronation without delay aligns with longstanding tradition, which requires newly elevated members of the Olubadan-in-Council to immediately receive their beaded crowns.

The government emphasized that postponing the ceremony could trigger unnecessary speculation or political interpretations an outcome it intends to avoid to maintain public confidence in the Ibadan traditional system.

While the process of compiling the full list of High Chiefs and Baales due for elevation is ongoing, the state stressed that the urgency of the coronation remains paramount.

Among those set to be crowned are High Chief Akeem Bolaji Adewoyin (Ekeerin Olubadan), High Chief Sarafadeen Abindin Alli (Ekaarun Balogun), and High Chief Kola Babalola (Ekaarun Olubadan).

The government also expressed appreciation for the cooperation of the Olubadan as preparations intensify for the ceremony, which is expected to reinforce continuity within Ibadan’s revered traditional hierarchy.
