President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the bomb attack in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State, which resulted in numerous casualties.

BusinessDay reported that the explosion, occurring during a wedding ceremony in Tashan Mararaba, Gwoza, claimed at least 18 lives and injured many more on Saturday.

The attack was carried out by a young woman in her early twenties, who detonated an explosive device amidst the crowd.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama noted that the victims, all civilians, were returning from the wedding when the explosion took place near a busy motorpark. Emergency services swiftly arrived to aid the injured and transport them to hospitals in Gwoza.

This bombing marks the first major incident in years since Boko Haram began their terror campaign in 2009, with notable attacks including the 2010 bombing of the United Nations building and the 2014 Nyanya motor park bombing in Abuja.

In a statement on Sunday by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu described the attacks as desperate acts of terror, reflecting the pressure on terrorists and the success in diminishing their offensive capabilities.

He assured that those responsible for the violence will be punished and emphasized that his administration will not allow Nigeria to revert to an era of fear, sorrow, and bloodshed.

The statement further mentioned, “The President affirmed that his administration is taking all necessary measures to secure citizens, emphasizing that efforts will be intensified to ensure those causing trouble, taking precious lives, and disrupting law and order are completely eradicated.”

President Tinubu extended his condolences to the victims, their families, and the people of Borno State.
