First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu launched a recapitalisation grant aimed at supporting 37,000 women petty traders across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

At the flag-off ceremony in Abuja, the First Lady announced that 1,000 women from each state and the FCT would receive N50,000 each, amounting to a total of N1.85 billion. This initiative is part of her Renewed Hope Initiative’s Economic Empowerment Programme.

Represented by the FCT Mandate Secretary for Women Affairs, Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, Tinubu emphasized that the event took place simultaneously across the nation.

She acknowledged the challenges faced by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country and noted that the grants were designed to help women overcome these challenges, create jobs, and expand their businesses.

“Through the Renewed Hope Initiative Economic Empowerment Programme, we are providing 1,000 pre-selected women petty traders per state with a grant of N50,000 each to recapitalize and contribute to the growth of the economy.

A total of N1.85 billion will be disbursed to 37,000 women petty traders nationwide,” Tinubu stated.

She further stressed that economic empowerment for women remains a core objective of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), which continues to support the broader reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, praised the initiative in her goodwill message, describing it as a significant effort by the First Lady to provide essential support for women traders to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

Represented by her Special Adviser on Social Investments, Maijidda Musa, Dr. Mahmoud commended the First Lady for her investments in human capital, particularly in areas such as education, health, social investment, and agriculture, through the RHI.
