The Lagos State Government has finalized plans to organize a justice reform summit aimed at addressing the challenges within its justice system.

Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), announced this at a news conference on Monday in Lagos. Pedro emphasized that a modern, agile, responsible, and effective justice system is essential for ensuring equitable access to justice, safeguarding fundamental rights, protecting property and investments, and meeting the evolving needs of the people.

Pedro highlighted that an efficient justice system would not only protect rights and property but also boost investor confidence and contribute to economic growth. He called on all stakeholders to actively participate in the summit and contribute to improving the state’s justice sector.

The summit will evaluate the causes and consequences of delays in the justice system, explore innovative strategies to expedite legal processes, foster collaboration among justice sector stakeholders, and rebuild public and investor confidence in the administration of justice,” Pedro explained.

The event will feature a diverse group of participants, including judges, scholars, members of the Nigerian Bar Association (both inner and outer bar), police, correctional officers, lawmakers, private sector representatives, and others. The summit aims to engage in constructive dialogue to evaluate past practices, assess current challenges, and chart a course for the future.

Key dignitaries expected to attend the summit include the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Governor of Lagos State.
