Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for civil servants in the state, as part of efforts to ease the burden of rising fuel and transportation costs.
The governor made the announcement on Monday during the supervision of the YEAP-SAFER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme held at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub.
Makinde explained that the intervention, which will run for an initial period of three months, is a strategic response to current economic challenges, particularly the spike in transport fares linked to the ongoing energy crisis.
He noted that the situation has significantly impacted workers’ welfare and overall productivity.
According to him, the transport support scheme is designed to reduce financial pressure on civil servants while ensuring sustained efficiency across government ministries, departments, and agencies.
The ₦10,000 monthly allowance will take effect from this month, with modalities for disbursement to be communicated through official government channels.
