Oyo State Governor ‘Seyi Makinde officially presented the instrument and staff of office to His Royal Majesty, Oba Sakiru Oyewole Adeokola-Oyelere, Ajani Eedu II, as the 10th Onifiditi of Fiditi today at the open field of Fiditi Grammar School.
Governor Makinde who was represented by his Deputy, Barrister Adebayo Lawal, highlighted the meticulous process followed in selecting Oba Sikiru Oyelere, which included endorsement by the entire family, presentation by the local government, and scrutiny by the Ministry.
He urged the new monarch to collaborate closely with the government on critical issues such as community development, education, healthcare, and security.
“The collaboration will help tackle challenges and ensure the welfare and progress of the entire community,” said Governor Makinde.
He emphasized the need for traditional institutions and government authorities to join forces in promoting peace, security, and overall development.
The Governor also charged the monarch to take all necessary steps to prevent kidnapping, banditry, and land grabbing in his domain, noting the government’s zero tolerance for these issues and expecting full cooperation in eradicating them.
Governor Makinde also urged the monarch to embrace humility, listen to the community’s needs, and lead by example in fostering unity and progress. “Your reign should be characterized by compassion, integrity, and a genuine dedication to the well-being of every individual under your care,” he stated.
While presenting the staff and instrument of office, Governor Makinde said, “In exercise of the power conferred upon the Deputy Governor by sub-sections (1) and (2) of Section 20 of the Chiefs Law Cap 28 Vol.1 Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000, I hereby present the instrument/staff of office, which symbolizes your authority as the Onifiditi of Fiditi, to His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Oyewole Oyelere.”
He extended his heartfelt gratitude to all those involved in making the ceremony possible and thanked everyone for their unwavering support and dedication to the progress and unity of Fiditi.
“Let us continue to work together towards a brighter future for generations to come,” he added.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon Ademola Ojo, congratulated the new monarch and Governor ‘Seyi Makinde.
He noted that this development would enhance unity among the indigenes of the town and strengthen the traditional system in the state.
Ojo urged the new monarch to work closely with the state government for the community’s progress, emphasizing the opportunity for cohesion and unity.
“This momentous event signifies a pivotal chapter in the history of Fiditi, as we witness the investiture of authority and leadership in a new era,” Ojo remarked.
“The staff of office, a symbol of tradition, strength, and unity, is bestowed upon His Royal Majesty, entrusting him with the sacred duty of steering his community towards a prosperous future.
By presenting these revered symbols of power, we reassert our dedication to preserving the enduring principles that have shaped Fiditi for generations.”
In his acceptance speech, Oba Sakiru Oyewole Adeokola-Oyelere expressed his appreciation to Governor Makinde, commending his visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to the state’s growth and prosperity.
Oba Oyelere pledged to focus on the educational advancement of his people, acknowledging the importance of an educated society.
He also emphasized the welfare of the elderly and collaborative efforts by dedicated Fiditians and supportive constituents of Oyo State.
“As we endeavor to attract businesses and grow The Homeland, our goal is clear: to foster economic growth and create opportunities for all.
These projects are steps towards a brighter future, one where our youth can thrive and our community can prosper,” Oba Oyelere stated.
He pledged to lead with wisdom, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to justice, urging the community to cultivate unity and harmony, drawing inspiration from the past to fuel future aspirations.
“Together, we will navigate the challenges ahead and triumph,” he concluded.
