The National Association of Nigerian Students has condemned alleged discrepancies in the disbursement of Nigerian Education Loan Fund money at D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State, and called for an immediate investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

NANS President, Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, said in a press statement dated June 22, 2026, that documents and reports showed a clear gap between funds released by NELFUND and what appeared on students’ invoices at the institution.

According to NANS, while NELFUND reportedly disbursed ₦355,000 to a student, the polytechnic’s invoice and financial records reflected only ₦236,000 for the same student, as against the amount shown on the NELFUND portal.

The student body described the glaring discrepancy as raising serious questions about accountability, transparency, and the management of funds meant to ease the financial burden on Nigerian students.

“NELFUND was established to expand access to education. Any attempt by individuals or management of any institution to exploit the scheme for personal gain is a betrayal of public trust,” Afeez stated.

NANS condemned in the strongest possible terms any alleged diversion, misappropriation, inflation, or fraudulent disbursement of NELFUND funds by the polytechnic’s management or any other institution found culpable.

The association called on the EFCC to immediately commence a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged discrepancy and diversion of NELFUND funds disbursed to D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic.

NANS also urged the polytechnic management to publicly clarify the discrepancy, provide a transparent account of all NELFUND-related transactions affecting students, and make refunds where necessary. It further asked NELFUND management to strengthen monitoring mechanisms to prevent abuse of the scheme.

“Under my leadership, NANS shall not compromise. We remain committed to protecting the interests of Nigerian students. The future of Nigerian students must not be compromised by acts of corruption or financial misconduct,” Afeez added.
