The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Edward Ogundoyin, marked his 39th birthday on Tuesday by commissioning and handing over a newly constructed secondary school to the Oyo State Government in Temidire Community, Ibarapa East Local Government Area.

The project was commissioned on behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde by the Commissioner for Education, Olusegun Olayiwola, in the presence of top government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, party faithful, and residents.

Speaking at the event, Ogundoyin expressed gratitude to God for what he described as a historic development for Temidire and neighbouring communities.

He noted that prior to the project, about 14 villages with several primary schools had no secondary school, forcing students to travel long distances to Abeokuta in Ogun State or to Eruwa to continue their education — a situation that placed financial strain on families, exposed students to safety risks, and contributed to school dropouts.

“Today is not just about unveiling buildings; it is about keeping faith with our people and securing a brighter future for our children. Promise made, promise kept,” the Speaker said.

The newly built school consists of two blocks of three well-ventilated classrooms each, making a total of six classrooms. Each block includes staff offices and a Principal’s office to support effective administration. A separate structure with two modern toilet facilities for staff and students was also provided to ensure proper hygiene.

Fully furnished and ready for use, the school is expected to commence academic activities in September with its first intake of students for the new session.

Describing the event as a “double celebration,” Ogundoyin said there could be no better way to mark his birthday than by investing in the educational development of his constituents.

He reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development, revealing that another secondary school project in Ojonamo, Lanlate, is nearing completion, while the Maya Town Hall project is also progressing steadily.

The Speaker also listed other projects executed across Ibarapa East, including the construction of a Primary Health Centre at Lagaye, a mosque at Oloro, completion of the Eruwa Youth Movement Secretariat, provision of a cold room for butchers, drilling of about 40 boreholes, facilitation of employment opportunities, bursary awards for students, and empowerment programmes.

Ogundoyin thanked the Temidire community for their cooperation during the project’s execution and commended the contractors for delivering quality work. He urged residents to take ownership of the facility and safeguard it, stressing that education remains a vital tool for sustainable development and societal progress.
