President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday announced a nationwide security emergency, directing the Police and Armed Forces to scale up recruitment as Nigeria confronts a surge in violent threats.
A statement from the State House confirmed the President’s approval for the recruitment of 20,000 additional police personnel, raising the total intake to 50,000.
He also authorised the use of National Youth Service Corps camps as temporary training centres to accelerate deployment.
Issuing a firm caution to criminal elements, Tinubu stressed that the government’s restraint must not be misread as weakness, assuring that the state is fully prepared to take decisive action.
He called for unity, vigilance, and stronger public cooperation with security agencies, stating that the fight against insecurity demands collective resolve to secure the nation’s future.
