Celine Dion criticized Donald Trump on Saturday for using her hit song “My Heart Will Go On” during an election rally.
The 1997 track, featured in the movie “Titanic,” was played at a rally in Montana on Friday, accompanied by a video of Dion performing the song on a big screen.
Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada, issued a statement on X, clarifying that the use of the song and video was “in no way” authorized.
“Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use… And really, THAT song?” the statement added.
The choice of the song has sparked ridicule on social media, with comparisons drawn between Trump’s campaign and the doomed ship from the James Cameron film.
Trump, who had been leading in the presidential race, faces renewed challenges since Kamala Harris replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate.
Harris has gained significant momentum, especially after announcing Tim Walz, Minnesota’s governor, as her running mate.
Released on Dion’s 1997 album “Let’s Talk About Love” and the “Titanic” soundtrack, “My Heart Will Go On” became one of the biggest songs ever, selling 18 million copies and earning Dion an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and several Grammys.
Dion, 56, had to cancel several shows in 2023 and 2024 due to an autoimmune disorder but recently delighted fans with a performance from the Eiffel Tower at the Paris Olympics opening. AFP
