A governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Kunle Olatunji, has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress and declared his intention to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election under the platform of the Action Democratic Party.
In a statement issued by his media team, Olatunji confirmed that his resignation has been duly communicated to the APC and that he has fully aligned with the ADP as his new political platform.
Describing the move as both difficult and necessary, Olatunji said the decision was driven by recent developments within the APC that have made it challenging for him to pursue his political aspirations.
According to him, concerns over declining commitment to progressive ideals and leadership principles within the party informed his exit.
“I have remained committed to the values of progressivism, but the current realities within the party have made it practically impossible to continue on that path,” he stated.
Olatunji expressed appreciation to his associates and supporters within the APC, noting that he cherishes the relationships built over time. He also expressed optimism that some of them would join him in his new political journey.
Reaffirming his ideological stance, he emphasized that the ADP aligns with his vision for purposeful leadership, anchored on discipline, empathy, and effective service delivery.
The aspirant further revealed that plans are underway to formally unveil his campaign under the ADP, with a clear focus on securing victory in the 2027 governorship election.
“I am not joining the ADP merely to participate, but with a strong determination to win and deliver governance that reflects the true aspirations of the people of Oyo State,” he said.
Meanwhile, Busari Kamoru, Chairman of APC Ward 7 in Oluyole Local Government, acknowledged receipt of Olatunji’s resignation letter and wished him well in his future political engagements.
Olatunji concluded by assuring the people of Oyo State of his commitment to a people-oriented approach to governance, promising to promote collective responsibility, sustainable development, and inclusive leadership if elected.
