The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the forthcoming Ibadan-North Federal Constituency bye-election, scheduled for Saturday, 19th July 2025, did not take place.

This was contained in an official correspondence addressed to the Director of Election and Party Monitoring at INEC Headquarters, signed by Rosemary Alaba Adeniyi, the Acting Administrative Secretary on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo State.

The letter, forwarding the official report of the APC primary election, reads in part: “I hereby forward herewith the attached report of the House of Representatives Primary Election of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ibadan-North Federal Constituency Bye-Election scheduled to hold on Saturday 19th July, 2025.

Please, accept the assurances of our highest regards sir.”

The attached report clearly states: “The Primary Election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan-North Federal Constituency of Oyo State scheduled for Saturday, 19th July, 2025 did not hold in Oyo State.

However, all efforts to monitor the Primary Election as specified in another letter signed by the State Secretary which was submitted on Sunday, 20th of July, 2025 proved abortive.”

INEC reiterates its commitment to ensuring transparency and compliance with all electoral guidelines, and urges all political parties to adhere strictly to the provisions of the Electoral Act in the conduct of their internal party primaries.
