Organisers of the recent #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests, which took place nationwide from August 1 to 10, 2024, are now preparing for a new series of demonstrations in October.

Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, confirmed the upcoming protests to our correspondent on Monday. Adenola stated that the demands of the protesters will remain unchanged unless new issues arise that necessitate additional demands.

“Yes, we are calling it the ‘Fearless in October Protest’. Our charter of demands remains the same, though we may add more if the country’s situation deteriorates further,” he said.

During the previous protests, youths from across Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, took to the streets despite government appeals for them to cease their demonstrations.

The protesters had presented a list of demands prior to the demonstrations, which included calls to abolish the Senate, make law-making a part-time job for the House of Representatives, increase the minimum wage to N250,000, reverse fuel and electricity tariff hikes to pre-January 2023 levels, and to release and compensate all EndSARS and political detainees.

When asked if they would comply with court orders from state governments requiring demonstrations to be held at designated points, Adenola responded, “We won’t accept the compliance.”

Additionally, activist and Human Rights Lawyer Deji Adeyanju informed our correspondent that efforts are currently focused on securing the release of protesters arrested during the previous demonstrations.

“All efforts are being directed towards securing the release of those who were arrested,” Adeyanju said via phone call.
